Chromate Conversion Coatings

Chromate conversion coatings are applied to the plated parts to extend the corrosion resistance.  This extended protection is from the corrosion inhibiting effect of the gelatinous film that chromate applies to the part.  The conversion coating also protects because of the barrier that is formed between the zinc plated part and the atmosphere.  We offer zinc plating in three different chromate colors: clear, yellow, and black.

We recently replaced our clear chromate with a new “high corrosion” trivalent clear chromate which will give your parts salt spray protection of 130 hours to white corrosion and 250 hours to red corrosion.  Typical clear chromates only give parts 12 to 20 hours of salt spray protection before white corrosion.

BP+ is a post chromate process that will extend the salt spray tests to well over 500 hours.  We also have a bake oven to relieve hydrogen embitterment.
